Conference: Soft resistance. By Langarita-Navarro
Series: Design practices, Unfamiliar places

Maria Langarita and Victor Navarro from the young Spanish architecture office Langarita-Navarro join us for their lecture Soft Resistance in which they talk about a different material consistency of the city and architecture.

This young studio is well known for interventions like the Medialab-Prado or the Red Bull Music Academy in Matadero Madrid. Both projects are very iconic. Through their lively colours, unconventional materialization and the chosen compositional approach they remind of certain proposals of the radical architecture era.

The Medialab-Prado is architecture from the future. It is building and plugin, but also some sort of strange spaceship at the same time. It has expressive geometries, strong colours, transparencies. The Red Bull Music academy instead resembles the construction of a small village placed inside the naves of a huge abandoned building of the Matadero slaughterhouse complex.

These projects are expressive places, which capture our attention just like a good crime tv-show. In a playful manner the projects continuously stimulate our visual and corporal perception and transfer us into a different world. Not only are these projects mysterious presences inside our city, but inside the photos of them mysterious figures appear, half animal half human, and sometimes a crime has taken place.
